Recently, Prof. Li Pingya from School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Jilin University (JLU) was elected as a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (RAEN) for his innovative contributions in the field of innovative drug development. The other day, the RAEN President Oleg L. Kuznetzov and Chief Academic Secretary General Lida V.Ivanitskaya sent the certificate and congratulatory letter.
Prof. Li Pingya serves as Tang Aoqing Distinguished Professor of JLU. Currently, he is the director of the NDRC’s National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Ginseng Innovative Drug Development, director of JLU’s Natural Medicine Research Center, senior expert of Jilin Province, principal investigator of R&D talent team of major scientific and technological projects in Jilin Province, expert of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) resource committee of Jilin Province, and member of advisory committee of Jilin Provincial People’s Government. Prof. Li’s field of interest is the chemical composition, biological activity, and innovative drug development of ginseng (American ginseng). As the “king of herbs”, ginseng is the epitome in the development of TCM industry. While undertaking National Key Technology R&D Program, the National Major Scientific and Technological Special Project for “Significant New Drugs Development” and the Provincial Key Technology R&D Program in Jilin Province, he has successfully carried out the basic research on the chemical composition and biological activity of ginseng (American ginseng), and made major breakthroughs in the key technologies and applications of efficient transformation of ginsenoside and innovative drug development, filling many gaps in the ginseng industry.
Over the years, Prof. Li has made remarkable achievements in scientific research and transformation of achievements, and has duly received honors and rewards. He has undertaken more than 20 research projects on ginsenoside with support from various programs, such as the National Key Technology R&D Program, the National Major Scientific and Technological Special Project for “Significant New Drugs Development” and the Provincial Key Technology R&D Program, and has received more than 20 million yuan of research grants. He has won two first prizes and three second prizes of Science and Technology Progress Award of Jilin Province, 45 invention patents, including 29 in the field of ginseng research. He has also published more than 150 papers and co-edited 10 monographs, among which he is edit-in-chief for six. Among the approved first-in-class new drugs, three of which have won the funding of hundreds of millions of yuan. With the investment and the construction of factories in Shandong and Jilin Province, it is expected to form a scale economy of 10 billion yuan for a single drug through evaluation. Over the years, he has won many honors, including the DEBIO-CCRF Encouragement Award; “The People of the Year 2014 Award” by Scientific Chinese; “The People of the Year 2017” under the “Invention and Entrepreneurship Award” by China Association of Inventions; China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Innovation Award (2017); the second prize of China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Innovation and Promotion Award (2018); “Advanced Individual in the 10th Anniversary of the Construction of Modern Science and Technology Industrial Base of TCM”; and “Model Teacher” of Jilin Province, 2021.
Prof. Li Pingya is an influential expert in the field of pharmacy and has made great contributions to School of Pharmaceutical Sciences in discipline construction, talent training, scientific research, and social service over the years.
