Message from the Dean
Characterized by application, pharmaceutical sciences contains a broad range of scientific disciplines, and serve as an important engine for the development of medicine. The integration of modern medicine, chemistry, biology, and materials science with pharmaceutical sciences has provided strong theoretical and technical support for its rapid development. With the Healthy China initiative launched, vigorous policy and financial support have been given to pharmaceutical sciences, and great potential is on the rise in this field.
Jilin University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (JLUSPS) traces its history to the former School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Norman Bethune University of Medical Sciences. It was founded by Professor Xu Jingda, a renowned natural medicine chemist in China. Over 20 years into its development, the school is now authorized to offer doctoral and master’s degree programs in pharmaceutical sciences, and mobile stations for postdoctoral scientific research in pharmaceutical sciences and biology. JLUSPS has established the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Ginseng Innovative Drugs Development , 4 key laboratories under the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and 13 provincial key laboratories and engineering centers. It has co-founded three industrialization strategic alliances, including National Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Industrialization Alliance, National Biomedical International Innovation Park Industry-University-Research Alliance, and Ginseng Industry & Technology Innovation Alliance . 3 joint laboratories have been built in partnership with Shanghai Pharmaceuticals Holding Co., Ltd., Shanghai Zuanzhi Biotechnology Co., Ltd., and Jilin Wancheng Group Co., Ltd. , which focuses on the research and development of chemical drugs, biotechnology drugs (recombinant protein, gene-based, and cell-based drugs), and natural medicine respectively. The total investment reached more than 80 million yuan, which has considerably improved the conditions for pharmaceutical research and development, and enhanced the school’s ability of achievement commercialization and talent training. According to Essential Science Indicators (ESI) developed by Thomson Reuters, Jilin University ranks among the top 1% in pharmacology and toxicology in the world.
The pharmaceutical sciences of Jilin University is recognized as a key advantageous discipline in Jilin Province, and the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences has become an important powerhouse for education, research, talent training, and achievement commercialization in this field. With great passion and devotion, members of JLUSPS are striving together to build a “world-class discipline”. We sincerely welcome talents from all over the world to join this big family, and hand in hand we will make great contributions to the future of China’s pharmaceutical sciences and the strategic goal of creating a healthy China!
